There is a beautiful Appalachian Carol by John Jacob Niles (1892-1980) called “I Wonder as I Wander” and it goes like this....

I wonder as I wander, out under the sky, how 

Jesus the Saviour did come for to die

for poor ordinary people like you and I

I wonder as I wander, out under the sky. 

 

When Mary birthed Jesus, all in a cow’s stall, 

came wisemen and farmers and shepherds and all, 

and high from the heavens a star’s light did fall; 

the promise of the ages it then did recall. 

 

If Jesus had wanted for any wee thing, 

a star in the sky or a bird on the wing, 

or all of God’s angels in heaven to sing, 

he surely could have had it, ‘cause he was the king.

On Advent 1 we will celebrate the promise of Hope. We will light the first candle on the wreath in our worship space and say the words: “Christ is God’s gift of hope to us.  In him there is hope because God’s promise to the world was fulfilled. It is a sign our our hope together.  Let us wonder together: What does hope mean for you? For our community at St. Marys? For the world? 

Dear God,

As we begin our Advent pilgrimage, and as we wonder and wander, grant us the courage to hope;  hope for your presence, hope for your peace, hope for your promise.  

Amen.  

 

We await the coming of our Lord together and with much hope.

We welcome this time of Advent with a beautiful and contemplative service of Nine Lessons and Carols.  There will be light refreshment served afterwards.  Come and prepare for the coming of Christ in our midst, in our heart, in our world. 

Ticket price by donation and a portion of the donations will be gifted to the Mary Manning Center.  Please bring a gift for the food bank if you are able to.    

Parishioners, Community Members, Family and Friends, Please join us for our Annual Christmas Drop-in Pageant. If you have ever wanted to be part of a Christmas Pageant and never got the chance, for the young and young at heart please come out and join in. There will be costumes of all all sizes, no lines to learn. Come and hear the Christmas story and hear the message of peace and joy.

 On December 12th we’ll gather as church family for supper, and fellowship and a bit of Christmas cheer! 

If you haven’t submitted your payment to Joel yet, please do.  Bursaries are available for the meal, just speak to Pastor Aneeta or Joel.  Adults $30 Children under 12 $15.00 and Children under 5 $5.00
