“Where did all the young people go?”Lent 2024 - Wednesday, March 13, 2024 For decades we’ve been wondering and worrying about our young people leaving our beloved church. For 4 Wednesday mornings this Lent, join Bishop Anna and Christine Conkin to explore the social, spiritual, religious and theological movements of the late 20th century. What happened in the wake of the great optimism of the 1960’s? Why haven’t any of the many approaches we’ve tried to engage young people over the decades worked in the long term? And finally, what are some of the emerging ideas and practices of 21st century Christianity and beyond? Where might we go from here? Dates: Wed. Feb 28, March 6, 13, 20 Time: 9:45am - Coffee and light snacks; 10:00-11:30am program Where: St George's Cadboro Bay For more infomation visit: http://stmarysmetchosin.ca/events/where-did-all-the-young-people-go/2024-03-13

Gaza Ceasefire PilgrimageA Via Dolorosa of Solidarity - Saturday, March 16, 2024 Kairos and Boradview United Church invite you to participate in a Pilgrimage for Peace, a Gaza Ceasefire Pilgrimage. They are also looking for volunteers to help with the event. Please find more information in the attached pdf and on their Facebook Event Page: https://bit.ly/3unrWpX. For more information about this global invitation to walk, please check out the website. "While the length of Gaza is 41km or 25 miles, the circular route we are planning is half that. This, we are imagining would be a 7-8 hour walk, the length of a pilgrim’s day! For those participants who might be keen they could walk the entire distance of Gaza by walking the route twice. Since we know that some pilgrims might choose to walk a shorter distance. we are envisioning stopping points built in every 5 km or so. These pauses will be opportunities to reflect, to enjoy refreshments and to pass the banner for a new group to carry. Some faith communities might have people walking in a relay doing 5 km each, whereas others might join and walk as far as they feel possible together." We TogetherDiocesan Bi-Annual Conference - Friday, April 12, 2024 We Together is our regular (once every other year) diocesan conference to remind us of the ways we are connected; we are stronger together. We are bound in countless ways, in our structures, in our prayers, and through the stories we tell. We are each others concern, and we are each others gift. This year we are continuing to focus on our context, building on the "here in this place" theme from We Together 2022 we will be looking at what it means to serve and minister in the most non-religious context in North America. We have unique challenges, and unique opportunities. The conference will begin on Friday evening April 12th with an evening banquet at the Baumann Centre followed by an opening address by our Executive Director, Brendon Neilson. On Saturday we will gather at St. John the Divine in Victoria featuring our keynote speaker John Thatamanil, our Diocesan Theologian. John will be presenting two sessions with small group dialogue following each. We will end our time with the celebration of the Eucharist with Bishop Anna preaching and presiding.
