Children, youth, and adults are all invited! Ever wondered what makes a Scripture reading really come alive? Or found yourself standing at the lectern thinking, “Please, God, let me pronounce this name correctly”?
Come join us for a relaxed, practical, and fun workshop on two important parts of our Sunday worship: reading Scripture and leading the Prayers of the People.
We’ll explore some simple techniques for bringing Scripture to life through pace, pauses, emphasis, expression, and a little bit of imagination. You don’t need to be an actor, and you certainly don’t need a booming “church voice.” In fact, we’ll discover why sometimes the most powerful reading is simply one that sounds like a real human being who understands what they are saying.
We’ll also look at the beautiful ministry of the lay intercessor. What are we actually doing when we lead the prayers? How do we pray on behalf of the whole community? Where do the prayers come from? And how can we make them thoughtful, grounded, inclusive, and connected to the life of the world around us?
There will be practical resources to take away, ideas for preparing prayers, opportunities to experiment with reading Scripture, and plenty of permission to discover that you already have more ability than you thought.
No experience necessary. No audition. No special church voice required.
